Nice posts, both part 1 and 2. Have you tried handbrake for converting videos? It’s the best software I have seen for iPod video conversions. It’s OSS and cross platform. What more do you want? (Or anyone else for that matter).

Soo, only those downloaded from within Itunes will be nicely categorized as podcasts? thats pretty lame

oh well, I will just hear them and delete them.

Would be quite bothersome for them to automatically come up while in a nice drive.

No, converting mp3s to Podcasts is a bit complicated, you will need to upload them to a local server or site and then make a rss feed, subscribe through iTunes and then download
